Summary

Hemispherical colonies, usually knobs on the surface and deep ridges at closer observation.

To be confused with

- Symmetrical brain coral Pseudodiploria strigosa.
(The latter has evenly rounded ridges and smooth contours.)
- Boulder brain coral Colpophyllia natans. (The latter species has a groove on top of the ridges.)

Characteristics

Size: Up to 1 m 20 in diameter.
Colour: Green, light-brown or bluish gray.
Shape: Hemispherical colonies, usually knobs on the surface and deep ridges at closer observation. 

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabit shallow environments including Turtle grass beds and mangrove roots, down to 40 m.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: Bonaire, St. Eustatius.
