Saltwater. Marine reptiles. They have a flattened body shape, a
protective carapace, and flipper-like arms, adapted for swimming in the
open ocean. The hawksbill's arms have two visible claws on each flipper.
To be confused with
- Green turtle Chelonia mydas
to 100 cm.
The shell has an irregular combination of light and dark streaks, with predominantly black and mottled-brown colors radiating to the sides.
Flattened body is covered by a large, teardrop-shaped carapace; it has a pair of large, paddle-like flippers. It is easily distinguished from other sea turtles by its sharp, curving beak.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. It spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs.
