Summary

Saltwaterfish. Trumpetfishes. Trumpetlike mouth. Long, thin body. Size up to 90 cm. Brown, purplish and yellow. Do not change colours but can quickly pale or darken and frequently display bars, spots and vague mottled pattern to camouflage.

To be confused with

- Bluespotted cornetfish Fistularia tabcaria (Long tail filament).
- Sand tilefish Malacanthus plumieri (Crescent tail,  dark area on upper central tail).


Characteristics

Size: 40 cm - 75 cm. Max 90 cm
Color: Brown, purplish and yellow. Do not change colours but can quickly pale or darken and frequently display bars, spots and vague mottled pattern to camouflage.
Shape: Long, thin body with trumpetlike mouth.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. Often swims along with other fish species, adapting their colours.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: Bonaire.
