To be confused with

- The closely related species Lobed star coral Orbicella annularis and Boulder star coral Orbicella franksi.

Characteristics

Size: Up to 6 m in diameter
Colour:  Green to brown
Shape: Massive mounds or vertical plates partly covering each other.
