Summary

Saltwater. Brittle Stars. Long slender arms with a distinct central disc. The arms are covered with numerous long, thin, glassy spines. The color is lavender, pink, yellow or red. Along the length of the arms is a thin, dark line. The color of the disc may be different from the color of the arms.

To be confused with

- Reticulated Brittle Star Ophiothrix reticulata
- Spiny Brittle Star Ophiocoma paucigranulata

Characteristics

Size: 5 to 8 cm, up to 25 cm from arm tip to arm tip.
Colour: Lavender, pink, yellow or red. Along the length of the arms is a thin, dark line. The colour of the disc may be different from the color of the arms.
Shape: Long slender arms with a distinct central disc. The arms are covered with numerous long, thin, glassy spines. 

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. Lives in and among sponges, gorgonians and fire corals. Depth: ranges from 3 m down to 40 m.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
