Summary
Saltwater. Grunts. Slender, cylindrical body, with small mouth, five or
six long parallel stripes over a grey to white background. Pectoral fins
are white, all other al yellow. Inhabits shallow reefs, by day drifting
in groups, by night they spread out to adjacent flats to feed.
To be confused with
- French grunt Haemulon flavolineatum
- Bluestriped grunt Haemulon sciurus
Characteristics
Size: 18 to 25 cm, max 30 cm.
Colour: Five or six long parallel stripes over a grey to white background. Pectoral fins are white, all other al yellow.
Shape: Slender, cylindrical body, with small mouth.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits shallow reefs, by day drifting in groups, by night they spread out to adjacent flats to feed.
