Summary

Saltwater. Bivalves. They rest in their own "nests", which are made of small coral pieces and rocks.

To be confused with

- Antillean Fileclam Lima pellucida

Characteristics

Size: 5 to 9 cm
Colour: The mantle is brightly coloured red to orange-red, fringed with long tentacles. The colour of the tentacles is variable, from white in deeper, to reddish-orange in shallower water.
Shape: This bivalve shell is not attached to the substrate. The shells are roundish with many fine ribs.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. The shell lives on reefs, in recesses. Well hidden, but the tentacles may be visible. But can swim by snapping the shells shut, thus escaping predators.
