Summary

Saltwaterfish. Boxfishes. Inhabits shallow reef. A wary fish that stayes close to cover  for protection, but it can rapidly swim away.

To be confused with

- Scrawled Cowfish Acanthostracion quadricornis.

Characteristics

Size: 20 to 38 cm, max 57,5 cm.
Colour: Pale greenish, bluish or yellowish and is covered with dark hollow hexagons, wich tend to be open (incomplete). It is a dramatic colour changer. The Juvenile is yellow with black spots.
Shape: Is similair to the Scrawled Cowfish, with two horn-like spines above the eyes, two ventral spines near the anal fin. The caudal fin is rounded.


Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs.  Inhabits shallow reef. A wary fish that stayes close to cover  for protection, but it can rapidly swim away.

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
