Summary

Saltwater fish, Tube Blennies. Small size fish with elongate, slightly compressed body, blunt head and short snout and long pelvis fins. Prefers shallow reefs with rocky areas and near coral rubble. Inhabits small holes.

- Roughhead blenny Acanthemblemaria aspera


Characteristics

Size: 2.5 to 5 cm.
Colour: Adult male is dark, young male and female are pale, with some brown and grey spots. The elevated fin has light and dark broken diagonal lines.
Shape: Elongate, slightly compressed body, blunt head and short snout and long spiny dorsal fin, with small Cirri above the eyes and nostrils.

Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. Prefers shallow reefs with rocky areas and near coral rubble. Inhabits small holes.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
