Summary

Saltwater fish, Flounders. Bottomdweller on sandy and rubble areas, near reefs, can hide itsself under the sand. Easy to approach, depends on its camouflage.

To be confused with

- Channel Flounder Syacium micrurum.
- Eyed Flounder Bothus ocellatus.

Characteristics

Size: 15-45 cm.
Colour: Grey brown body with bright blue rings, matching its colour to that of the the surrounding area.
Shape:  flat, bottom dweller, two eyes on one side, with long pectoral fin.


Habitat environment and ecology

Inhabits coral reefs. Bottom-dweller on sandy and rubble areas, near reefs, can hide itsself under the sand.

Distribution range

BES-eilanden: St. Eustatius.
