Saltwater fish, Damselfishes. Found mainly on coral reefs, alone or in
small groups, somewhat territorial, but not agressively so. Juvenile
acts as a 'cleaner' of bigger fish.
To be confused with
- Threespot Damselfish Stegastes planifrons
Size: 10 to 18 cm, max 20cm.
Colour: A dark bluish- brown body with yellow fin. Bright blue spots on head, back and dorsal fin. Juvenile is dark blue with blue spots.
Shape: Body laterally flattened, oval in profile.
Habitat environment and ecology
Inhabits coral reefs. Primarily shallow water, to 12 meter, alone or in small groups. the juvenile is very shy.
